Classic interior designs

Classic interior design originates from Romans and Greek traditions. A specific focal point is used to create harmony, order and balance. The focal point must stand out which can be created as a fireplace, impressive staircase or a grand table. The rest of the furniture is well picked out. The room is designed to form perfect symmetry such as if the room is cut into have the two pieces are a reflection of each other.

Creating classic designs

  • Colors: size of the room is important when making your choice. If the room allows sunshine or you will use many lampshades use warm colors. The room with little lighting requires lighter colors to light the room up.
  • Create balance: the elements that have been used should blend perfectly and in harmony. The use of focal point in every dwelling space is essential. If the room is used as an office it is important to create comfort in furniture placement.
  • Furniture: there are people who have an eye for classical pieces. They spend time in vacation making a collection for their homes. Classical pieces are well polished with an appearance of class, quality and uniqueness.

Let us move on the lighting consideration. We are once again talking about the dining room as significant part of the classic design. One feature of the dining table in the traditional design is it keeps the chandelier at a center of this. For wall ornament, you may use either electric or candle to give sense of the classic look. You can as well put buffet lamps & candlestick on serving pieces. The silver candlestick can be right for the candlelight dining as well as give the romantic atmosphere to feeling. We now talk about the window treatment. The windows are actually made to give the complete balance to room just by tending toward floor length. The typical traditional accents make use of hard surfaces than the soft ones.
One more consideration, floor becomes the important aspect for the classic touch. In order, to give the traditional accent, you may select wood or marble. In addition, you may add rugs to soften your floors. For dining room we recommend you place them in the table. For patterns of rugs, you may consider either the Orientals, like Kirman and Tabriz, or French Aubussons. Finally, to give the beautiful decoration, you may add cornice molding.

What is Interior Design?

Interior design as the term suggests is a design related field which deals with designs and layouts of indoor spaces such as inside a home, office, guest house etc. This will include but not be limited to choosing the right floors, windows, lighting, and other miscellaneous items as part of the design. The objective of every interior designer is to lay out a space so that is beautiful and comfortable, often times these designs will cater to the needs of a specific person, or group of people who hire the designer.

Interior design has existed for over two hundred years, the only difference being that in the old days it was primarily reserved for the aristocracy or the royalty since they were the only ones who could afford decorating their home. In today’s world interior designers work as either freelancers or work for organizations that specialize in either commercial or residential interiors. Many designers are self taught and make their way up based on their natural abilities to design.

Many designers may chose to focus on a special type of interior since it allows them to become better versed in it which in turn means they are able to do a better job. For instance there may be a person who specializes in designing airports and so is more likely to understand and work solely with airports or similar buildings, primarily because it takes a long time to become familiar with exactly how to design airports, its structure and many times the knowledge cannot be applied elsewhere such as in apartment buildings. In a broad sense an interior designer may also just focus on commercial design which includes schools, government buildings and hospitals etc or just chose residential interiors.

Interior design themes

A theme also known as a style is an idea or formula which is used throughout a space in order to create total completeness. However, there is a difference between design concepts and styles. Concepts involve a much deeper understanding of architectural order, as well as the socio cultural requirements of a given client. Themes are based on period styles. For instance you may have Victorian themes, Islamic themes, Feng Shui, Indian, Gothic, etc.

Now because these themes i.e. period styles are not set in stone interior decoration today has evolved and grown to a point where it is not supposed to be consistent with a specific period or style which allows for mixing of various pieces from different eras. But each element included in a design should contribute to function, form or even both while at the same time maintaining a consistent quality and standard put together to create a design. The design is intended to connect with the owner on a mental level. This past decade designer, architects and decorators have been trying to re-discover different and unique furniture which was originally developed back in the 1950s and 60s from newly manufactured material which were originally developed for military uses. Some of the latest trendsetters are Herman Miller, Knoll, Charles and Ray Eames. Many times the themes themselves are not used but just provide a guideline for the design process.

Modern Sustainable building design

In these past few years there are some interior designers which have adopted many aspects of sustainable building, these designers attempt to create living spaces which are functional yet aesthetically pleasing and obviously sustainable. Designers who want to pursue this aspect of design will often have to take an accredited course for instances the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design also known as the LEED exam. The market for LEED certified designers is huge and with more businesses choosing to go the route of sustainable design many designers push to become LEED certified, which also signals that a business is taking its environmental responsibility seriously.

Professional Interior Designers

While many interior designers chose to work on a freelance contract basis there are a number which are kept on the payroll as staff in many organizations. Designers working independently will generally take on much smaller projects and may assist with a specific project or a similar set of projects which includes furnishing a client with a quote, working with the client to decide what will suit him the best, as well as working with suppliers or builders to get the job done. However, large corporations may find it much more financially feasible to employ an interior designer or a team of designers full time. This is true for organizations which have to work to build a strong brand image for their buildings. How an interior designer chooses to work is based on their abilities as well as their own personal choices. People who work better without a boss may want to go solo while others looking for regular monthly paychecks may want to be employed.
